Intravenous (IV) Sedation Dentistry
It is estimated that 30 to 40 million Americans avoid the dentist because of fear and anxiety. Sedation dentistry is a technique that can be used when a patient suffers from dental anxiety or dental phobia to help the patient relax and be able to receive the dental care they need. Sedation dentistry is also used in conjunction with some cosmetic and restorative dental procedures to keep the patient still and calm during treatment.
Dr. Kimberley Daxon and Dr. Kenneth Grundset use various forms of sedation dentistry, including IV sedation which is sometimes referred to as sleep dentistry. The patient remains conscious during IV sedation, able to understand and respond to requests from the dentists. IV sedation works by calming the nerves, inducing a state of deep relaxation. Many patients feel as though they were “asleep” during the procedure because the drugs used cause partial or full memory loss for a period of time until the effects wear off.
Benefits of IV Sedation Dentistry:
- Patients often have no recollection of the dental procedure and report that it was quick, easy and painless
- IV Sedation is safe and effective, the staff at Daxon and Grundset Dentistry are trained to treat patients with sedation dentistry
- Multiple procedures can be performed in a single visit, saving the patient time and money
