What are the Advantages of Dental Veneers?
Dental veneers tout numerous advantages. Besides helping people achieve the smile they’ve always dreamed about, the process of getting dental veneers is relatively easy. Here are just a few of the biggest perks of dental veneers:
Natural Appearance: Dental veneers are natural looking in shape, size, color and overall appearance. Because they can be shaped, sized and colored, dental veneers are versatile and can be perfectly matched to one’s teeth.
Gum Friendly: Unlike other dental options, gums tolerate veneers very well and aren’t prone to infection or irritation from the veneers.
Brighter Smile: Dental veneers can make your smile appear brighter and whiter, yet still natural. Besides this, dental veneers can improve your appearance by fixing chips, breaks, gaps and other dental issues.
What Can I Expect If I Get Dental Veneers?
The process of getting a dental veneer typically requires three trips to the dentist for treatment planning, preparation and finally, bonding. Here’s what you can expect for each visit:
Treatment Planning: During your initial appointment with your dentist, you’ll discuss your goals as we examine your teeth to ensure that dental veneers are a viable option for you. From here, we can begin planning the appropriate treatment.
Preparation: Following the treatment planning, you will have another appointment with your dentist to prepare your teeth for the dental veneers. This involves your dentist removing about ½ of a millimeter of enamel from the surface of the teeth that are going to have dental veneers on them.
Form here, the dentist will create a model of these teeth. The model is then sent out to a dental laboratory to construct the veneers.
Bonding: Once the veneers have been constructed, the final step is the bonding process. Your dentist will place the veneers atop of your teeth temporarily to examine the fit and color. He or she may remove and trim the veneers as needed until they achieve the proper fit.
Once the veneer is properly fitted and positioned, special cement is applied to the veneer and then the veneer is applied onto your tooth. From here, the dentist will use a special light to the veneer, which will cause the cement to harden.
