2. A diet with too much sugar
The bacteria that is found in your mouth feeds off of sugar, which causes your teeth to become coated with a damaging acid that leads to tooth decay. Make sure you avoid super sugary foods as well as those that have hidden sugars. Sugar can cause damage to your teeth in just a few seconds, so if you have eaten something with a lot of sugar, it is best to brush your teeth soon after to reduce the amount of acid that’s left behind.
3. Eating too many highly acidic foods
Soda and fruit juice are drinks that are known to be highly acidic, but there are also many other foods and drinks that have high acidic contents. Many common foods we consume on a daily basis contain acid, which breaks down tooth enamel and causes cavities. Avoid foods that are extremely acidic and brush your teeth after each meal in order to ward off cavities.
4. Tooth grinding
A lesser known cause of tooth decay is grinding your teeth. Many people do this in their sleep or they don’t even realize they are doing it.
